Dr. Makoto Sunamura developed this technology on "Salivary metabolomics as a tool for screening cancers for an early detection".

Saliva is called a "mirror of the body" and contains a lot of information that is an indicator of health, like blood and urine. Since most of the components in saliva are derived from blood, metabolites exuding from the cancer cells pass through the blood vessels and exude into saliva. There are two types of Human Saliva 1) Resting Saliva and 2) stimulated Saliva, the resting saliva resembles close to the blood components. Dr. Makoto Sunamura has developed a novel technology to analyze the concentrations of these substances in Saliva to find out whether the person is susceptible to Cancer Risk or not. This novel technology helps a person to know about the risks of multiple cancers at once and It takes only a few drops of saliva for the testing and hence its painless. Early detection of cancer or risk for cancer helps to prevent it by early diagnosis/treatments or by modifying lifestyle changes.

The technology:

In a path breaking technological advancement, Prof. Sunamura of Japan has developed a novel metabolomics based technology in which analysing polyamines in the saliva can help in the screening for the following five different types of cancer

The process of saliva collection is simple, painless and non-invasive.

This testing is available in 600 clinics all over Japan

Unlike testing the cancer-risk using DNA which remains the same throughout life, these polyamines keep dynamically changing in the body and the metabolomics approach to evaluate them in saliva helps monitor them which will be directly correlative to the cancer evolving in the body
